This course serves as a guide for project organizations to deliver benefits to an organization. The current external environment is unforgiving. The pressure on project offices to improve organizational health is unrelenting. It is important for organizations to understand how to identify and implement best practices in managing project work. This course evaluates your project environment to identify a focused set of priorities that help organizations get work done, and only the right work done. Participants learn to implement a Project Management Office (PMO) that best suits the purposes and circumstances of their organization. The course also addresses key issues in PMO formation and management: alignment with organizational goals and strategies; selection of a format, structure, and method for optimizing the reporting relationship; as well as recognizing and coping with barriers to acceptance and effectiveness. Students learn to determine a pragmatic approach in situations ranging from a project office with a single employee to a strategic project office while adhering to goals and existing project culture. They create a plan that begins with vision, includes a mission statement and charter, an assessment of staffing requirements, a budget estimate and a scope of functions and services.
For Online Sections of this course: Online courses are largely self-study with instructor support through threaded discussion groups, email and sometimes scheduled online chats. Some instructors may allow students to pace themselves following the published syllabus, enabling them to accelerate through the material and finish early. However, all students must complete and submit all assignments by the schedule end date. Grades are issued for the entire class approximately two weeks after the scheduled end date.
